LEONI Kabel Holding GmbH & Co. KG, a subsidiary of LEONI AG, has signed an agreement to purchase all the shares in Studer Draht- und Kabelwerk AG, based in Däniken. The purchase price for the exceptionally profitable company translates into about 105 million euros. Subject to cartel authority approval as well as any other delaying conditions, the takeover will take business effect on 31 July 2006. With annual sales of about 84 million euros and approximately 350 employees, the non market-listed family business founded in 1939 is one of the five largest Swiss cable manufacturers.
Studer makes special cables with specific insulation properties for safety-related areas of application such as rolling stock and shipbuilding, plant and mechanical engineering as well as for equipping airports, road and rail tunnels. Studer is also one of the few cable manufacturers anywhere in the world with what are known as irradiation crosslinking systems to manufacture highly temperature-resistant cable and for sterilising medical equipment, among other products. The product portfolio thus provides an ideal enhancement of LEONI’s existing range of products and services.
