Major order from BMW will give LEONI’s revenues a further boost

A demanding project to develop customized cable harnesses for BMW’s 3 Series

Kitzingen/Nuremberg – LEONI has expanded its position vis-à-vis its new customer BMW by securing a further order for the new 3 Series, for which we will supply customized cable harnesses on a just-in-sequence basis. LEONI Bordnetz-Systeme GmbH & Co. KG, which is based in Kitzingen, will manufacture for and supply BMW AG’s Munich plant throughout the model’s lifecycle. LEONI already received an order to supply some of the vehicle’s wiring one year ago. The BMW project will, across the whole lifecycle, contribute a total of about half a billion euros to consolidated revenues.

By gaining BMW as a customer one year ago, LEONI managed to include another German premium-category manufacturer in its client base after Mercedes, Porsche and Audi/VW. Our company will be able to bring its expertise in developing and producing cable harnesses for high-end vehicles fully to bear on BMW’s 3 Series: What is termed the customized cable harness is assembled individually for each car depending on the technical equipment features, such as seat heaters or a navigation system, that the particular customer has specified. This also presents a major logistical challenge because LEONI has only a few days between receiving the order for the cable harness and having to deliver it to BMW’s plant in Munich – a process known as “just-in-sequence” delivery. LEONI is therefore currently preparing to step up its production capacity at a strategically well-located facility.

Some of the products included in the overall scope of BMW’s order will be made in Bistrita, Romania, where we are currently building a new wiring systems plant. LEONI will also supply products for the Mercedes A-Class from this facility.
