Leoni awarded as “Supplier of the Year”

General Motors honours its best suppliers

Nuremberg/Detroit, 11 April 2007 – Leoni received General Motors Corporation’s “Supplier of the Year Award” for its excellent performance as an automotive component supplier in 2006. World’s largest carmaker bestowed such an award on only 89 of its roughly 3,200 suppliers worldwide. Leoni is among the awarded companies for the fifth time already. Uwe H. Lamann, Leoni AG’s Management Board member in charge of the Wiring Systems division, accepted the award during a festive ceremony in Orlando, Florida. “We regard receiving this award again as testimony to the permanently outstanding quality of our products, our stable competitive cost structure and Leoni’s leading expertise in the area of innovation and logistics,” said Lamann.

General Motors also praised the Nuremberg-based group:
“We are proud to honor Leoni as one of the ‘Best of the Best’ GM suppliers in 2006,” said Bo Andersson, GM group vice president, Global Purchasing and Supply Chain. ”Leoni achieved the award based on its outstanding performance. We appreciate their energy, hard work and dedication to the success of GM.”

Ten years of close collaboration

General Motors has been a Leoni customer for more than ten years. For instance, Leoni supplies the whole wiring system for the current versions of the Opel Astra and Zafira models. To provide the substantial production capacity required for this contract, Leoni already built in 2002 a new manufacturing facility in record time in Stryj, western Ukraine, which meanwhile employs about 3,000 people.

The Leoni Group

Leoni is a global supplier of wires, cables and wiring systems as well as a provider of related development services. With more than 35,000 employees and 83 subsidiaries, the company generated consolidated sales of EUR 2.1 billion in the 2006 financial year. The principal customer base is the automotive industry, for which Leoni develops and makes technically sophisticated products: from single-core automotive cables through to complete wiring systems with integrated electronics.
