Nuremberg/Kitzingen – For its top performance in quality, service, technology and price LEONI was named as a General Motors Supplier of the Year 2004. The award, which began as a global program in 1992, was given during ceremonies on Saturday, 23 April 2005, at the General Motors Vehicle Engineering Center in Warren, Michigan. This year, General Motors honored 78 suppliers for their excellence throughout 2004. "Our Supplier of the Year winners are the Best of the Best and LEONI is part of this elite group based on their outstanding performance in 2004," said Bo Andersson, vice president, GM Global Purchasing and Supply Chain. "Its balanced focus on performance and behavior support GM’s priorities, and make it a role model for suppliers worldwide."
Close collaboration for ten years
LEONI has been developing and manufacturing cable harnesses for Opel, General Motors’ German subsidiary, for about ten years. "Over the years LEONI acquired an excellent reputation at General Motors, having received the Supplier of the Year award several times already. We take this as proof of the outstanding quality of our products, our competitive cost structure and smart logistics concept," said Uwe H. Lamann, member of the Board of LEONI AG and responsible for the Wiring Systems Division. He received the award together with Hubert Vierrether, LEONI Director Business Unit General Motors. Currently LEONI supplies all the wiring for the new Astra and Zafira models. To provide the substantial production capacity a new production facility was erected in record time in Stryy, western Ukraine, which meanwhile employs 2,400 people. "The supplier award honors the successful realization of what is so far one of the largest orders and most ambitious projects in our company’s history," said Lamann.
