Nuremberg –LEONI AG from Nuremberg, which has been listed in the S-DAX to date, will be going up into the M-DAX on the 25th July 2002 and therefore also into the DAX 100 as well. The systems and development supplier for wires, cable, wiring systems will in future be managed in the "Software & Technology" industry of the DAX 100. This is a result of a decision by the German stock exchange dated 16th July 2002 on the new composition of the share index. LEONI is the successor to Tecis Holding AG.
There had been talk of LEONI being a candidate for the M-DAX for several months. "That we are already going up into the M-DAX is a confirmation for us that our business is developing well, that the prospects for our growth are good and that we are reaping the benefits of stepping up our contact with the capital market", said Dr Klaus Probst, who has been acting chairman of the board since the 27th June 2002. "We are assuming that the LEONI share will attract even greater attention and it will become even more attractive to institutional investors as a result of being a M-DAX share".
LEONI has been in the Small-Caps-Index S-DAX since 1999
LEONI AG, which has been listed in the Small Caps-Index S-DAX since the index started in April 1999, has grown as a company at a terrific speed in recent years in particular. From 1997 (406 million Euro) to 2001 (1,098 million Euro) it increased its turnover by about 170 %. In the same period it managed to increase its annual net earnings by about 240 % up from 8.3 million Euro (1997) up to 28.3 million Euro. The company is planning to increase its turnover up to 1.7 billion Euro by 2005, all the more so since major orders from well-known car manufacturers will give another boost to turnover.
Good business growth and more communication help the share price upwards
In contrast to the growth in business, over the last two years LEONI AG has been highly dissatisfied by how its share price has fared. "We had the impression that as a Small-Caps-Index share we were overshadowed by larger joint stock companies, in particular when the Neuer Markt (New Market) was at its peak", explained Dr Probst. That is why the company has stepped up its level of communication with business journalists, analysts and institutional investors significantly over recent months. "Together with our good business growth which we have been able to achieve ourselves in the current difficult economic times, this has had a very beneficial effect on the turnover of our shares on the stock exchanges and on our share price". In addition to this, LEONI decided at its annual general meeting on the 27th June 2002 to go over to registered shares as part of stepping up communications with its shareholders to an even greater extent.
