Leoni received the “Excellent Supplier of the Year Award” of SAIC Motor Corporation (SAIC Motor) for its outstanding performance as an automotive component supplier in 2007. The leading Chinese carmaker lauded its suppliers during its first Supplier Day in Shanghai.
Dr Alfons Härtl, managing director of Leoni Bordnetz-Systeme GmbH, accepted the award presented in a ceremonial setting. “We are especially proud of this commendation from SAIC Motor. We succeeded in less than two years in convincing this fast-growing customer of our capabilities as a local supplier of wiring systems,” said Härtl.
SAIC Motor representatives praised particularly the top quality of Leoni’s products as well as the outstanding service provided and commitment shown in supplying product for the Roewe 750. Leoni obtained the contract to develop and supply the whole wiring system for this saloon car, which is based on a former Rover model. About 250 staff have since the end of 2006 been working at Leoni’s facility in Shanghai on production of the sophisticated wiring system, which comprises more than 700 single cables.
The Wiring Systems division has consistently expanded its business with the car and commercial vehicle industry in the Chinese market in recent years. To enhance its position in the market, Leoni built a state-of-the-art facility in Shanghai in 2006. It employs a total of about 700 people in development, production as well as sales and distribution.
