München – LEONI was honored by General Motors with the "Supplier of the Year Award". Quality, service, technology and price of the wiring systems supplier have been valued.
Since 1992 General Motors awards its best global suppliers from different trades. In 1999 there were 181 award-winners from 22 countries, 34 of them from Germany.
"LEONI is one of our best and brightest suppliers," said Harold R. Kutner, group vice president, Worldwide Purchasing and North American Production Control & Logistics, who hosted the event at the Prinregententheater in Munich. "Their contributions to General Motors’ overall success are immeasurable. We look upon the Supplier of the Year award as an important recognition of their value as an automotive industry supplier."
"General Motors has only been part of the LEONI customer portfolio since 1997. We receive the Supplier of The Year Award after just two years of co-operation. We take this as proof of the efficiency of our products and our company," said Uwe H. Lamann, member of the Board of LEONI AG and responsible for the Wiring Systems Division. He received the award together with Hubert Vierrether, LEONI key account manager General Motors.
LEONI wiring systems are currently integrated by General Motors into the Opel Astra and Zafira models. At the end of 1999 LEONI started setting up a cable harness production at their Chinese facility in Changhzou in order to just in time supply wiring systems for the Thailand built Zafira. LEONI AG is globally operating in its Wire, Cable and Wiring systems Divisions. In 1999 an overall turnover of DEM 1.2 billion has been achieved.
