Based on provisional figures, LEONI AG in Nuremberg again managed to generate year-on-year increases in sales and especially net profit in its 2002 financial year. Sales were up 1.5 % to EUR 1.113 billion (from EUR 1.097 billion in the previous year). The Company increased net profit at a substantially faster pace than sales: net profit was up from EUR 18.7 million (EUR 28.3 million according to German GAAP) to EUR 47.4 million. This includes a beneficial, non-recurring item amounting to EUR 17 million due to the changes in US accounting standards.
Despite the difficult macroeconomic situation, LEONI Group maintained its position well due to its broad range of products and its presence in various markets. In the Wiring System Division, the company achieved a 6.1 % increase in sales to EUR 595.6 million (up from EUR 561.6 million in 2001). In the Cable Division, sales of EUR 436.1 million virtually matched the previous year’s figure of EUR 439.7 million. The sales of the Wire Division, amounting to EUR 81.6 million (2001: EUR 96.8 million), reflect what is still a tight situation in the communications industry.
