LEONI extends commitment in the Middle Kingdom

New LEONI Cable Changzhou facility officially opened

Nuremberg/Changzhou – The new cable production facility of LEONI Cable Changzhou was officially opened in a formal ceremony on 14 October 2004. In his speech at the opening, Dr Klaus Probst, chairman of LEONI AG’s management board, emphasized the high priority that the Chinese market has for LEONI. The company in Changzhou started producing cord sets for the electrical appliances industry back in 1992, and since 1997 LEONI has also been manufacturing automotive and standard cables in Changzhou. The business has been steadily expanded ever since and, to meet the growing demand of the Chinese market in the future as well, LEONI has now extended its production capacity in the cable sector. The newly built facility of LEONI Cable Changzhou employs about 900 people. Covering an area of more than 15,000 qm, the site provides ample space for further expansion.

As recently as last year LEONI opened a new facility, LEONI Special Cables Changzhou, to manufacture special cables for the mobile phone industry as well as LEONI Changzhou Wire, a new wire and strand manufacturing plant. With about 60 employees, LEONI Special Cables Changzhou has already successfully established itself in the market. LEONI Changzhou Wire expanded its capacity further in fiscal 2003 and meanwhile employs more than 100 people.
