LEONI plant Roth certified according to environmental standard

DIN ISO 14001 introduced

Roth –The LEONI Kabel GmbH & Co. KG plant Roth has been certified under the international environmental standard DIN ISO 14001. In order to receive this environmental award high requirements have to be met, for example in reference to waste disposal, waste gas, noise and conservative use of resources.
Plant manager Wolfgang Lösch, LEONI Kabel GmbH & Co. KG managegment representative for industrial environmental protection Bernd Eiteljörge and environmental representative Roland Mainka have introduced a number of positive changes in the plant Roth within the scope of the environmental auditing. Thus, a new filling station as well as a new emulsion treatment plant have been set up which fully comply with the most current environmental guidelines. In addition, the recycable material section has further been optimized for the reason that the disposal of hazardous material can be carried out in an even more safe and efficient way now.

Additional improvement measures to be prepared
Within the frame of an improvement programme all througout the company, several staff teams continue to work on making production even more ecologically sound. Factors are, for example, more efficient material use, waste reduction as well as reduction of energy and water consumption. Apart from these improvement teams, the environmental awareness of all employees is enhanced in special training courses.
LEONI has always thoroughly dealt with the general set-up of its plant in Roth for the reason that the location at the Rednitz river with neighbouring residential areas require strong environmental awareness – particularly because production runs at seven days per week with almost twenty four hours per day.
LEONI Kabel GmbH & Co. KG intends to further improve the ecological conditions of the plant in view of the small-scale Landesgartenschau (garden show) which will take place in Roth in 2003. For this reason, open areas are to be planted and the waste water drainage of traffic areas to be improved as much as possible.

Environmental auditing for Hungarian plant next
The certificating has been carried out by the DQS, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Qualitätssicherung (German association for quality assurance) and will be repeated on a yearly basis from now on in order to check the continuous compliance with criteria. The North German LEONI cable plants in Friesoythe and Brake have also been included in the environmental auditing. The Hungarian cable plant is planned to be certified next.
Aside from the cable business, the environmental compatability of production also plays an important role in the business of the LEONI Divisions Wire and Wiring Systems. In that respect, the wire plant Kötzting has held the pioneer position because it was certified under the EU’s ecological regulation already in 1996.
