Nuremberg – Leoni will showcase technologically sophisticated cable solutions and systems made of copper and fiber optics for special requirements in automation engineering at the SPS/IPC/DRIVES 2008 trade fair in Nuremberg. The novelties to be exhibited on stand no. 357 in hall 6 will include the highly durable “HeavyTrunk” fiber optic cable. The specialist in wire, cable and wiring systems will also display well conceived products and services for drive and automation engineering, machine and system control as well as measurement and control technology.
As one of the worlds leading manufacturers of special cables, Leoni has developed cables, conductors and components that meet the specific requirements of the automation industry in terms of mobility, durability and longevity. At the SPS/IPC/DRIVES 2008 trade fair, which will be held in Nuremberg from 25 to 27 November, Leoni will be represented with three of its business units: Automation & Drives, Machinery and Fiber Optics.
Fiber optics – switching light, carrying light, distributing light
The Fiber Optics business unit will display, among other products, its new “HeavyTrunk” fiber optic cable in loose tube design, which features extremely high tensile strength of the distributor head, water-tightness and resistance to lateral pressure. As the individual core bundles are colour-coded, it is possible to install long lengths without using radio equipment. Furthermore, there is no need to break up the whole structure to trace individual fiber failures. In addition, Leoni will exhibit connectors, adaptors and fiber optic switches for applications in measuring and testing equipment with the highest requirements. These include physical analysis methods, optical performance monitoring and environmental trace analysis.
System control – from the special cable through to the cable system solution
On its fair stand Leoni will also display cables and conductors through to complex cabling solutions for machines and systems. These are normally made to individual customer specifications and feature, while being very economical, for example small diameters, high packing density as well as excellent physical, mechanical and chemical properties. The offering for the mechanical engineering sector and as well as for measurement and control technology covers all conceivable products and services – from tailor-made special cables, coiled cables, miniature cable and HPF (high-performance flex) cables to hybrid cable solutions with integrated copper conductors, polyurethane hoses, flexible fiber optic cables and extremely slim coaxial cables through to the complete system solution.
Motion control – feedback upon the first click
Also on show will be the Leoni FieldLink fieldbus cables (among others for PROFIBUS, AS-Interface, Industrial Ethernet …) for factory automation and the Leoni FieldLink MC cable systems for drives with motion control in machine tools. These feedback cables make it possible to run innovative drive modules by transmitting what are known as electronic type plates entirely without elaborate installation connections. These highly sensitive transducer cables transmit not only all the digital drive parameters to the transformer, they also constantly supply the control center with all the technical and logistical information.
