Products: how green our offering already is
Numerous LEONI business units already offer environmentally-friendly products and are equipping ecological applications with them. Our portfolio is steadily growing thanks to our own new developments and additional application opportunities.
In working on the environmental technology markets LEONI is benefiting from the complementary collaboration between its two business divisions: to cover the high-potential alternative drive technology segment we set up our interdivisional Business Unit Electromobility in 2010. Together with customers in the automotive and energy industries as well as with outside partners the unit is working on helping emission-free mobility to make a breakthrough – with innovative technologies and solutions along the entire process chain, i.e. for applications in vehicles with electric, hybrid as well as fuel cell power and charging infrastructure. For the latter LEONI offers charging cables, cables for the internal wiring of electric charging stations as well as cordsets with country-specific approvals.

In the automotive sector, we have also made progress in lightweight construction: the use of alternative conductor materials – which include aluminium, bronze (CuSn), copper-clad steel (CCS), copper-clad aluminium (CCA) as well as alloys like copper-silver (CuAg) and copper-magnesium (CuMg) – can reduce cable weight by more than 60 percent compared with conventional copper conductors.
With a focus on the whole wiring system, we are – with the help of the Toodedis development tool – optimising its architecture by ascertaining the electrical demand within the cable harness and consequently the most favourable conductor cross section. This has shown potential for weight saving by up to 30 percent.

- Drive cables for highly efficient electric motors
- Wiring for energy-efficient household appliances
- Halogen-free cordsets (for example LEONI EcoSense)
