Data protection

Data privacy

LEONI welcomes you on our website, we appreciate your interest in our company, products and services. The protection of your personal data during your visit to our homepage is very important to us. The following statement explains how we collect and process personal data.

We process data in accordance with applicable legislation for the protection of personal data, in particular in line with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (DSGVO), the German Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG) and any other data protection provisions that may be applicable.

We would also like to draw your attention to another privacy policy, which refers to data processing in the context of applications for vacancies. The same applies to our cookie policy, which provides specific information about the use of so-called cookies.

Who is responsible for data processing, and who is the data protection officer?

The responsible controller for data processing is LEONI AG, represented by the Management Board. Our contact details including those of our data protection officer can be found on the right.

Which legal basis applies to data processing?

We process your personal data in compliance with the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the German Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG) and all other relevant laws.

Individual / personal data you provide is typically used for the following purposes: technical administration of our website as well as answering your requests. If we obtain individual consent for processing of personal data, Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a GDPR shall serve as legal basis for such processing.

If the processing of personal data is necessary to safeguard our company’s legitimate interests and if the interests and / or fundamental rights and / or freedoms of the data subject do not outweigh our interest, Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR shall serve as legal basis for processing of personal data.

In the processing of personal data necessary for pre-contractual measures or for the performance of a contract to which the data subject is a party, Art. 6 para. 1 lit. b GDPR may serve as legal basis. The processing of personal data takes place based on Art. 6 para. 1 lit. c GDPR if it is required to fulfill a legal obligation to which we as a company are subject.

Which purposes apply to data processing, and where do data come from?

As a rule, your personal data is collected directly from you. We process personal data of our users only to the extent necessary to provide a functioning website and to provide the requested services. Whenever you access our website, our system automatically collects the following data:

Browser type, date and time of retrieval, files called, amount of data transferred and the information whether or not the retrieval was successful. In order to ward off attacks, we also store users’ IP addresses over a short time (Article 6 I lit. f GDPR). We exclude that this data is stored together with other personal data of the user.

It generally depends on the respective context in which data are collected and processed, but as a rule, the data processing is always limited to what is necessary for the purposes of processing (principle of data minimization). Let us give you the following examples:

Personal information such as your name, address, telephone number or e-mail address will be collected and used if you provide this information voluntarily, e.g. in the context of an information request or registration.

In the event that passwords are assigned during the registration procedure, this is usually accompanied by a request to change the initial password. Your password will be encrypted, and a new password can only be assigned if you choose the password reset process.

If you use our contact form, details such as name, contact information, the inquiry as such together with eventual further information on your individual interests and choices will be collected and stored for the purpose of processing your request.

Whenever you register for an event, additional (voluntary) information about you and your company as a customer is collected and, if necessary, registration data is generated which are used to follow security standards (secure log-in and the like).

You are also free to register with our press distribution list and you can revoke your consent any time without providing reasons. When registering for the press mailing list, you may also be asked if you have specific interests so that we can tailor our communications to your needs.

The above information equally applies to product requests and feedback that you can provide using our website. Such requests may be stored in our customer relationship system, with corresponding retention periods in place.

As a successful and growing company, we are always on the lookout for new talents. Consequently, we use various modern ways of recruitment, and this includes social media channels as this allows us to get in touch with potential candidates.

This approach takes place based on Art. 6 I lit. a and f GDPR. We will of course respect your right to revoke your consent and the right of objection according to Art. 21 I GDPR, and we will not process any data after a contradiction has occurred, unless there are compelling reasons on our part.

A transfer of data to third parties does not take place. This does not refer to service providers who support us in the performance of our duties and who furthermore signed data protection agreements in order to comply with data protection standards.

How long will data be stored?

Personal data will be deleted as soon as they are no longer necessary in relation to the purposes for which they were collected or otherwise processed. However, data may be stored in accordance with retention requirements based on national or European laws to which we as a company are subject.

Deletion of data also takes place when a retention period prescribed by the before-mentioned standards expires, unless there is a need for further storage of data, for example for the fulfillment of a contract.

How do we protect data?

We are very serious about the protection of your personal data and we thus implemented professional technical and organizational measures to protect data. For example, access to your data will only be granted to staff members who are directly involved in processing your request. In addition, all external service providers have been carefully selected and contractually obliged to comply with the strict European data protection laws.

Are you required to provide data?

You can visit our website without having to make any specific entries. However, please note that the processing of your request without the provision of certain data (at least your contact information), is not possible. In certain (exceptional) cases, data is also collected and / or made available due to existing legal provisions we have to comply with.

To what extent do individual automated decisions or profiling take place?

We do not use purely automated processing to make a decision.

Who gets your data?

Depending on the underlying purpose of data processing, personal data may also be passed on to affiliated companies (§§ 15 of the German Stock Corporation Act) and / or third parties, if and as far as this is necessary for the respective purpose. As already mentioned, data may also be shared with certain (external) service providers who work for us and who have all been contractually obliged to comply with data protection provisions.

Is data transferred to a third country?

Personal data may be transferred to companies within the LEONI Group or to third parties located outside the European Union (EU) or outside the European Economic Area (EEA) as follows: If it is necessary to fulfill (pre-) contractual obligations or if it is needed due to a legal obligation or if it is based on our legitimate interests or on the basis of your individual consent. In any such cases, we will ensure that the special requirements of Art. 44 et seq. GDPR are met and that suitable guarantees exist which ensure an adequate level of data protection, for example by using so-called standard contractual clauses.

Do we use cookies?

This website uses so-called cookies. Cookies are small files that are stored on users' computers. A cookie is primarily used to store information about a user during or after his visit to a website. Please refer to our cookie policy for details.

You can stop the use of cookies by changing your browser settings. However, we would like to draw your attention to the fact that the exclusion of cookies may lead to functional restrictions of the online offer

We would also like to inform you that a general objection to the use of the cookies used for the purposes of online marketing is possible via http://www.aboutads.info/choices/ or http://www.youronlinechoices.com/.

Do we use so-called tracking tools?

Based on our legitimate interests (Art. 6 I lit. f GDPR), we use certain tools and service providers who help us analyze and optimize our website, for example Google Analytics which is based on so-called cookies and provided by Google LLC (hereafter: Google).

The information generated by the cookie about the use of the website by the users are transmitted to a Google server in the US and stored there. Google disposes of a Privacy Shield certification https://www.privacyshield.gov/participant?id=a2zt000000001L5AAI&status=Active) and thus ensures compliance with applicable European data protection law.

On behalf of the operator of this website, Google will use this information to evaluate your website usage, to provide reports on website activity, and to provide other services related to website and internet usage.

The information generated by the cookie about your website usage is usually transmitted to and stored by Google on servers within the United States. IP-anonymization is active on this website, meaning that your IP address will be truncated.

Only in exceptional cases will the full IP address be sent to a Google server in the US and shortened there. The IP address provided by Google Analytics as part of Google Analytics will not be merged with other Google data.

Please note that you can prevent the storage of cookies by a corresponding setting of your browser software. However, we would like to point out that, in this case, you may not be able to fully use all parts / features of this website.

In addition, you can prevent the collection of data by Google generated by cookies in connection with your use of this website, including your IP address, by downloading and installing the following plugin: http://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=en.

As an alternative to the browser add-on or for browsers on mobile devices, please click on the following link to prevent future detection by Google Analytics: Analytics opt-out

This causes an opt-out cookie. If you delete your cookies, you must click the link again.

Users’ personal data will be deleted or anonymized after 14 months. Please visit https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads for more information about Google's data usage including opt-out options.

Do we use social media (buttons)?

We use various social plugins for purposes of analyzing and optimizing our website in accordance with Art. 6 I lit. GDPR (legitimate interests), for example Facebook’s social plugin (Facebook Ireland Ltd., 4 Grand Canal Square, Grand Canal Harbor, Dublin 2, Ireland) and other plugins.

Such plugins can display interaction elements or content and are clearly recognizable by the respective symbol / logo / button. When a user calls up a function of an online service that contains such a plugin, his / her device establishes a direct connection with the provider's servers.

This type of data processing may allow for the creation of user profiles. We would like to underline that we cannot influence the way / extent to which, for example Facebook, collects data with the help of such plugins. Instead, we inform our users in accordance with our knowledge:

By integrating social plugins in our website, for example Facebook and other providers receive the information that a user has accessed the corresponding page of the website. If the user is logged in to Facebook, Facebook can assign the visit to his Facebook account.

Whenever users interact with Facebook plugins, information is transferred to Facebook. Even if a user is not a member of Facebook, there is still the possibility that Facebook will find out his / her IP address. According to Facebook, in Germany only anonymous IP-addresses are used.

We would like to point out that Facebook certified under the so-called Privacy Shield, which ensures compliance with European Data Protection laws, see:  (https://www.privacyshield.gov/participant?id=a2zt0000000GnywAAC&status=Active.

Please refer to Facebook’s privacy policy to learn more about the purpose and scope of the data collection and the further processing and use of personal data by Facebook as well as related rights and settings options for the protection of privacy: https://www.facebook.com/about/privacy/.

If a user is a Facebook member and does not want Facebook to collect data about him / her via this website and link it to his / her member data stored on Facebook, he / she must log out of Facebook and delete cookies before using our online offer.

We would like to inform you that, within your Facebook profile, you can change / adapt your individual settings / choices / preferences: https://www.facebook.com/settings?tab=ads. Please also take note the following pages that you can use to change corresponding settings:

You can use the US website http://www.aboutads.info/choices/ or the following EU website: http://www.youronlinechoices.com/. The settings are platform independent, i.e. they are adapted for all devices, i.e. mobile devices and desktop computers.

Are services and contents of third parties integrated?

We use specialized services offered by third parties to analyze and optimize our website in accordance with Article 6 of the GDPR (legitimate interests). In this context, users’ IP addresses are collected and processed as this is a necessity for the presentation of third party content.

In addition, so-called pixel tags or web beacons may be used for statistical or marketing purposes. Corresponding pseudonymous information may then be stored in cookies on the users' device and, among other things, include technical information about the browser and operating system, etc.

This website also integrated functions / services / content offered by XING (XING AG, Dammtorstraße 29-32, 20354 Hamburg, Germany). The same applies to features and content provided by LinkedIn (LinkedIn Ireland Unlimited Company, Wilton Place, Dublin 2, Ireland).

This may include content and buttons with which users can share content from this website with XING and LinkedIn. In the event that users are members of XING or LinkedIn, the platforms can assign the access to the above-mentioned contents and functions to the respective user profiles.

You can visit Xing’s and LinkedIn’s privacy policies at https://privacy.xing.com/en/privacy-policy and https://www.linkedin.com/legal/privacy-policy. LinkedIn certified under the Privacy Shield, which ensures compliance with European data protection law.

We also use the privacy-friendly Shariff buttons: this way, user privacy is protected, because not the browser of the user, but the server on which this website is located connects to the server of the respective social media platforms.

Are there online presences in social media?

We maintain online social media presence to communicate with customers and interested parties to inform them about our company and our products and activities. This type of data processing takes place based on legitimate interests (Article 6 I lit. f GDPR) and may also be based on Art. 6 I lit. a., Art. 7 GDPR if users and / or interested parties have given us their consent to process their personal data for purposes we previously defined and communicated to them.

Please note that when using social media, users' data may be processed outside the EU, which may result in certain risks, for example because the enforcement of data subject rights could get more difficult, or because  users' data may be processed for advertising purposes or for the creation and usage of user profiles.

Such profiles can be used to place advertisements inside and outside the platforms. Furthermore, data may also be stored independently of the devices used by the users. Please note that US providers certified under the Privacy Shield have committed to comply with EU privacy standards. In order to exercise your rights, please refer to the below provider information:

Do we use Google Maps?

We use Google maps, a service provided by Google LLC, 1600 Amphitheater Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA so that you can easily find our locations / offices. Processed data may include, in particular, users' IP addresses as well as location data. Please note that data may be processed in the US. Can I register with you?

Users can register for different purposes, e.g. to receive information about new events, offers, and the like. As part of the registration process, the required mandatory information will be made available to all users and data is collected and processed in accordance with Art. 6 I lit. b GDPR.

Necessary data include (in particular) name, e-mail address and, if applicable, company details and login data. We also store users’ IP addresses as well as the time of the respective user action in accordance with Art. 6 I lit. f GDPR (legitimate interests).

This also takes place in the interest of users to avoid abuse. A transfer of these data to third parties does not take place, except in the case of legal obligations or to pursue own claims. Any collected IP-addresses will be either anonymized or deleted in due time.

Whenever users terminate their user account, any data used/needed with respect to their account will be - subject to statutory retention requirements - irretrievably deleted. It is up to users to back up their own data upon termination of the account.

Can I sign up for a newsletter?

It is generally sufficient to enter your e-mail address if you want to subscribe to a newsletter. You are of course free to provide further details (salutation, name, specific interests you may have) so that we can address you correctly and tailor our communication to your needs.

The dispatch of the newsletter and the related performance measurement is based on a consent (Article 6 I lit. a GDPR) or on the basis of the statutory permission in accordance with § 7 III of the German law against unfair competition.

All newsletter registrations are logged in order to provide proof that the registration process took place. This includes the storage of log-in-data and the IP address as well as a ‘time-stamp’. The newsletter is disseminated using the so-called double opt-in procedure:

Directly after registration, you will receive an e-mail in which you will be asked to confirm your registration. This confirmation is necessary so that nobody can register on your behalf (abusing your individual data).

You can revoke your consent and cancel the receipt of our newsletter at any time. In order to do so, you will find a link at the end of each newsletter. Alternatively, you may also be able to unsubscribe directly from our newsletter via our website.

We may save the submitted email addresses for up to three years based on our legitimate interests in order to provide evidence of prior consent. You can request deletion of your data at any time, given that you confirm the former existence of your consent.

Our newsletters are designed to allow for measurement of success in such a way that it can be evaluated whether and when the newsletters are opened, and which links are clicked. This actually makes recipients’ reading behavior comprehensible, but we would like to stress the following:

For technical reasons, this information can theoretically be assigned to individual newsletter recipients. However, this is not at all our goal as we are only interested in recognizing reading habits and preferences in order to adapt our content, dissemination times, etc.

Do we use data for advertising?

LEONI and its associated companies (see www.leoni.com/en/company/locations/) are interested in maintaining customer relations with you and in furnishing you with information and offers about our products, services and events as well as other company-relevant news.

Depending on the case, Art. 6 I lit. a GDPR (consent) or Art. 6 I lit. f GDPR (legitimate interests) or § 7 III of the German law against unfair competition may serve as legal basis for data processing. You can object to advertising at any time without providing reasons, simply contact us at info@leoni.com.

Are there any links to other websites?

Due to the fact that we have no influence on the content of third party websites, and owing to the fact that every operator is responsible for the content of his website, we cannot guarantee for the accuracy and lawfulness of such content. Third party websites were checked prior to linking in order to verify if there is illegal content.

At the time of linking, any such violations were not present. Please note that we are not obliged to permanently check for potential infringement as this is unreasonable.
We will of course react in the event that there are concrete indications of an infringement, and we will remove any such links immediately.

Which rights can you claim?

You have the following rights:

  • The right to information (Art. 15 GDPR),
  • The right to rectification (Article 16 GDPR),
  • The right to erasure/to be forgotten (Art. 17 GDPR),
  • The right to portability of personal data (Art. 20 GDPR),
  • The right to restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR) and
  • The right to object to data processing (Article 21 GDPR).

Please contact datenschutz@leoni.com to exercise these rights. Should you have any other questions on data protection, please contact us by e-mail at datenschutz@leoni.com or send your letter to LEONI AG, Attn. of Dr. Thomas Kaufmann, Data Protection Officer, Marienstr. 7, 90402 Nuremberg.

You also have a right of appeal to a supervisory authority for personal data protection. In addition, you have the right to object, on grounds relating to your particular situation, at any time to the processing of personal data based on Art. 6 I lit. f GDPR, including profiling based on those provisions.

We will no longer process your personal information unless we can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds for processing that outweigh your interests, rights and freedoms, or the processing is needed to assert, exercise or defend legal claims.

Please note that, in the event of a negative response (when we have no information about you), we will need to store your information request for a certain period of time for verification purposes as we have to demonstrate compliance with applicable accountability needs (Art. 5 II GDPR).

Our procedure follows current statutory limitation periods according to § 41 of the German Federal Data Protection Act and Art. 83 IV, V, VI 6 GDPR. The retention period thus amounts to three years and begins with the provision of the information.
