Leoni commissions first industrial sterilisation plant of its kind worldwide

Däniken (Switzerland) – LEONI Studer Hard AG, a LEONI Group company, today commissioned the world’s first x-ray sterilisation plant that uses IBA’s new Rhodotron TT-1000 system.

The sterilisation plant was set up on LEONI Studer Hard’s site in Däniken, Switzerland. This makes it possible for the first time to sterilise large quantities of medical products directly on pallets using a x-ray system.

The Rhodotron is an electron particle accelerator that was designed primarily for industrial application. The system enables especially efficient sterilisation of medical products, decontamination of packaging materials as well as modification of other materials. The new Rhodotron TT-1000 is, with an energy reading of 7 MeV (million electron volts) and output of 700 kW, the world’s most powerful electron accelerator of this kind. It permits entire pallets of product to be either treated or sterilised. The new Rhodotron TT-1000 x-ray sterilisation line is one of the largest systems for sterilising pallets available anywhere in the world.

IBA supplied the new Rhodotron TT-1000, while the configuration and planning was the result of LEONI Studer Hard AG’s many years of experience as well as an in-depth and fruitful partnership between all the teams involved. This large new line will enable us to meet the rising demand for pallet sterilisation,” says Hans Joerg Hartmann, LEONI Studer Hard AG’s Managing Director.
